When Hugues de Cluny founded these monastic buildings as abbey-church and convent, he was implementing his unique version of The Holy Grotto Principles of Saint Benedict Of Nursia. The Conqueror, the Red and William de Warenne all made it part of their leadership of The Norman Revolution, 1058-1100, to uphold and promulgate its message in The Frankish Kingdom. *** It is possible today to visit the location widely believed to be where,in 1077, William de Warenne and his wife Gundreda (not Isabel de Vermandois as some traditions maintain)met Hugue's closest collaborators and declared their historical purpose to defend the Cluniacist message as long as they lived. Our Forum would urge anyone who wants to understand the motivations for The Norman Revolution 1058-1100 to visit these wonderful places.
