throwing sticks
In the Bayeaux Tapestry what is the man holding, a double bent stick, who is just about to embark with hunting party of hawker and hounds. I assumed that it was a boomerang for hitting birds in a flock or to help turn a flock of birds. I have never found any record of this sort of throwing stick being used for hunting or warfare.
One commentator said that he thought it was a stick thrown in the sea to test the tide!
Any other suggestions?

Re: throwing sticks
Is this link you? Or where you got the idea?
http://www.angelfire.com/rnb/bayeux_tapestry/sect1_3.html
It is two spears, eight words of which there are for that weapon in the AS tongue.
Although the BT is not crafted to show objects and perspective literally (despite Turold's characteristic type of dwarvism being correctly depicted), the 'sticks' are way too long to be bows (8-9ft!), this length of which the AS were not using then?
Throwing Sticks - Wiki
Egyptian men used curved sticks, however, to catch birds in flight.
