The role of the Staunton knights in the Battle of Hastings

Currently enjoying the E-book version.
I have one resource that states The Staunton's led a battalion of 500 knights at the battle of Hastings. I am wondering if anyone can direct my internet search to a site that can confirm this; tell me where they came from in France; Did William give Staunton Harold in Leichestershire to them? I know there is some evidence that they received castles and land in Nottinghamshire, so if any of you can direct me I would appreciate it. I am working on a family history book for my children and want to know the connection between the Stauntons and the battle.
