ABUSE

This web site is used by many thousands of children every month as it is hosted by the top site on Google for the Norman Invasion - a UK curriculum subject. It is the place to discuss anything Norman.

That does not include any references to abusive words or subjects, or what might be interpreted by a lawyer as abusive opinions in regards to what other people may think and especially references to facists which have a proven record in the UK courts as demanding maximum fines. Those who do not abide by the rules will be banned permanently by IP address and a report filed to their Internet Service provider in the interests of avoiding legal action for all concerned.

Please keep the discussions within subject and use Usenet if you want to vent your freedom of speech in an unbridled format at your own peril. However be warned that in the UK one woman was fined approaching $15,000 last week for abusive discussion on Usenet last year. Everyone on this board is accountable for their actions under UK law and those in the US should realise that a new industry is spawning. It is in everyone's interest to abide by the rules and avoid predatory lawyers. It may not be our wishes but the law comes first.

Re: ABUSE

Ogmion ,this needs to be uniform across all contributors not selective.I accept children need to be protected as well as being able to educate themselves about all things Norman. There is also a need for this information to be presented in a way that is grammatically correct. That is not plagiarised and that informs and contributes in a way that encourges debate. This is as much a part of education as much as a mere posting of datelines
I feel that this is not encouraged by certain contributors whose postings on certain Norman issues defies all historical and archaeological evidence.

Re: ABUSE

Well the way it was put in court seems to me appropriate - namely that opinons in an academic arena tend to be determined by the views of those involved in the debate on all sides with the weight of opinion tending to result in a clear view of the picture emerging. We cant impose our view on everyone and this is what makes the subject interesting as long as everyone realises that this is not an anonymous forum where abuse is tolerated even in a minor form. The thing is if the post wanders off subject or worse get into areas that might be considered defamatory then the shutters come down on that and its not what these pages are for. Put in context this board has operated almost continuously since 1996 with many thousands of contibutions over the years without any problems and I intend to keep it that way.
I have incidentally reinstated the current filter to stop posting with a warning that it mustnt happen again. I think the lid needs to be put back on the pot and everyone should remember that this is a place to enjoy and use.
