Roger de Meulan

Aka Roger de Beaumont, supported The Norman Revolution 1066-1100 but following the assassination of the Red made an unprincipled accommodation with Beauclerc, the agent of The Frankish King. There is no known evidence that he was involved in the assassination conspiracy.

 He fought at Senlac and was Count de Meulan and Leicester and lived from 1046 to 1118.
 He was an adviser to the Conqueror and the Red.
 He was the Red’s intermediary in the 1093 when Anselm’s loyalty the Red was under question.
 His land in Angleland was estimated to be 252000 marks.
 In the late 1080’s and early 1090’s he gained most of his new lands in the Kingdom of the Franks.
 After the overthrow of The Norman Revolution in 1100 and Beauclerc’s seizure of Normandy in 1106 from Curthose, he was made Count de Leicester.
 In 1111 he launched a retaliatory attack on Paris after the Frankish King had made an incursion into Meulan.
 Ordericus Vitalis states that Robert was a believer in conceding territory in the face of threats from those he considered too powerful which may be an insight into his support for the Counter-Revolution after 1100.

Too true Rob that Orderic point. He makes it concerning the Beauclerc maneuvers which ensued Courtheuse's defeat at Tinchebrai.Despite the fact that the conflict was one set of counter-revolutionaries against another it does illustrate how much the former leadership of the Revolution 1066/1100 had sold their beliefs to the highest bidders Beauclerc/Philippe 1.
