Hi i'm new here
I am interested about how william invaded and fought at the battle of hastings with his french and brittany allies in october 1066 despite the valiance of the houscarls whom swein forkbearded brought over in 1015. The english lost a great battle because their king was not worthy of the throne after edward and had snatched it from william as poiters says also the bayuex tapestry shows that. How could they fail when the pope had even given william his personnal banner? Does anybody else on this interesting site think that the Norman cause was just?
Thanks.

Why do you call yourself a "moron"?

Re: Hi i'm new here
Maybe because this is clearly yet another uneducated and stupid anorak that refuses to balance information about the grasping, usurping Normans, who is unable to distinguish between 'fact' & fantasy using researched 1st/2nd hand sources...just like you!!!

Re: Hi i'm new here
williamtheredforum, my user i.d was meant to be a ironic joke but never mind. I read your posts before i registerd here and agree with most of your statements although some might need a bit more research. But i agree about william's strengths, what do you think to my first post about him? As for the other replies from athelstan937 and houscarl1066 i guess that william the conqueror is not appreciated for his battle prowess or iron rule but only complain about the stealing of lands after 1066 in England and the ravaging??

Re: Hi i'm new here
Athelstan, in the inferior, fat, grasping, lying Norman usurper army's idiom;-
Ces deux ballon-têtes de Norman sont imberciles complètes, et sont juste le genre d'idiots muets et arrogants que j'aimerais couper les têtes avec mon a fié la combat-hache deux-transmis!!!!!!!!
Of course, the above might translate rather oddly if one uses the Monty Python book of Anglo-French translations!
Redthedunce- read the most recent edition of the BBC history mag(page 97) about your gay hero, Williamthered? Oh and er...
Sweyn Forkbeard led a "r.e.v.o.l.u.t.i.o.n"!
******************
He died in 1016!
******************
His brother was killed in the St.Brice's day massacre of 1002!
******************
Despite being elected King by the witanagemot in England, january 1066- both legal and popular- King Harold II was a 'usurper'!
******************
William did not fear or grudgingly respect the fearsome reputation and capabilities of King Harold II & the Saxon army at all(seen in 1064 by him), so he landed at Pevensey unopposed......then hugged the English south coast for three weeks before moving inland!
******************
William offered King Harold(famed for his strength, courage and martial ability) a duel prior to Hastings, and he declined!
******************
William was one of the four knights(derived from an English word) that slew King Harold- then decided not to shout about it to the world afterwards!
******************
William led an invasion partly to bring the 'corrupt' English church in line with Rome- despite William allowing Stigand (whom the papal legates to England in 1062 took no action against).... to remain Archbishop until 1070!
Lol lol lol lol and a lol for the road!

Re: Hi i'm new here
Nomranmoronforum(I don't know who you really are, so I'm using the name you gave):
None of the sources you quoted are entirely reliable. In fact, none of the sources for the events preceding, during, and after "Hastings" are, in and of themselves, entirely reliable. And there are very few sources, unfortunately. William of Poitiers was pretty much an "apologist" for William the You Know Who, and would naturally "emphasize" that Harold was "unworthy" of the English throne. Yet the Witan thought Harold the most suitable candidate at the time. It's true William the You Know Who had a banner that was supposedly personally blessed by the Pope, but then, the English were never able to make their[/i case to Rome for a variety of reasons. As for the BT scene showing Harold swearing on holy relics, there doesn't seem to be much support for that[ elsewhere, except, apparently, in William of Poitiers.
